Dan D Lion

Dan D. Lion

Look! It’s the king of the jungle!
The strongest & noblest of beasts,
Look at his yellow coat shimmer,
The pride; roaming North, South, West, and East.

Look! It’s the stubborn survivor;
The monarch who wears a gold crown.
The first friend in Spring to the insects & bees,
Bright yellow, in country, and town.

See the king’s mane blowing wildly,
Parachutes dancing on air.
Listen, the wind’s started roaring,
He’s prowling, so better beware!

See his bright florets have perished,
Look! They’ve transformed into seed,
Spreading their blowballs like beacons of hope,
So sad that he’s often called, “weed!”

Love them, or hate them, you can’t deny the fact that Dandelions are probably the hardiest flowers around! They’ll grow anywhere, & through anything! It’s great to see the bees, & other flying insects getting their bodies stuck into the Dandelion heads. I love to see them fly off, covered in specs of pollen. And who hasn’t picked a Dandelion blowball/seedball/clock/fairies, blown them away, & made a wish? Although, maybe not, if you suffer from hay fever! Either way, their bright yellow heads always flower, stronger & more prolific, year after year..little lions of the plant world, they are! ?

Thank you very much, Peter. I’ve always called them fairies too ☺️

Well, that’s a very good question! I don’t like to hurt their feelings, but I’ve heard people call them puff balls, blow balls, clocks, seed balls..but I’ve always used fairies for the whole seed ball & individual ones, so that’s what they’ll stay ☺️

My best friend (she passed a couple of years ago) always said “I want to be buried with “dandelions” so I will always have wine to drink.” ** Cheers to you Gracie! **

I like Gracie’s style..sounds like a brilliant plan! Must admit I’ve never tried dandelion wine, but my aunt used to make it, when I was little. I do remember drinking dandelion & burdock pop as a child though. A very different, but pleasant drink.
