It’s Only April

It's Only April

It’s Only April

Just as the Springtime raises its head,
Draws back the curtain, and leaps out of bed,
An icy cool blast creeps up slyly behind her,
With a churlish grin, as a callous reminder.

“It’s only April, you know my cruel powers,
I’ll bring forth high winds & colder, sharp showers,
I’ll sprinkle some sun, blow some gentle warm breezes,
But my changeable nature may leave you with sneezes!

The Lesser Celandine

The Lesser Celandine

The Lesser Celandine

As snowdrops fade, and seek their rest,
A cheerful flower is at its best.
A gladdened heart will soon be mine,
To heed the Lesser Celandine!

Each bright, starred bloom, a tiny sun,
Each fragrant note, a tuneful hum,
Yellow paths will line your way,
As smiling faces light the day.

Flutter by Butterfly

Flutterby Butterfly

Flutter by Butterfly

Fly high, butterfly,
Flutter on, flutter by,
Over the hedgerow,
Over the gate,
Quickly now,
Captivate!
Flutter by, butterfly,
Fly on by, high fly,
Beauty brings
Vibrant colours,
Silent wings,
Insect stunners!

Captive Ghosts

Captive Ghosts

Captive Ghosts

Snagged on hedgerows like captive ghosts,
Awaiting release from their twiglet hosts.
Entrapped by fingers, crooked & cross,
Shredded & stretched like delicate floss.

Injured spectres; wretched, in pain,
Clutching & writhing with scorn & disdain.
Ghoulish spirits; shattered & lost,
Relentlessly clinging, whatever the cost.

Hidden Shafts Of Light

Hidden Shafts Of Light

Hidden Shafts Of Light

Concealed in every forest,
Find hidden shafts of light,
They’re only seen on sunny days,
Or when the moon shines bright.

Every nook & cranny
Gets to glimmer in the end,
When hopeful beacons gain the chance
To be the light shaft’s friend.

Spring’s Grand Groove

Spring's Grand Groove

Spring’s Grand Groove

Minute spheres of energy,
Wait to make their move,
Set for celebration,
Eager for Spring’s grand groove!

Just a little longer,
Each bud ballon will pop,
A floral leaf explosion,
A brand new surging crop!

My Happy Place

My Happy Place

My Happy Place

I’m walking very slowly.
I want this day to last.
Not thinking of tomorrow.
Done thinking of the past.

For here in earthly paradise,
I’ve found my happy place.
To walk these lanes forever,
To savour every pace.

Wakening

Wakening

Spring Prologue

Life begins; so tiny.
Life begins; so small.
Life begins to push on through,
Till small soon turns to tall.

Wakening

Winter; tired, and overworked,
Past time to slope off home,
Hauls wrinkled blankets way up high,
Drifts, weary, through the gloam.

Beneath the damp & dormancy,
Awakenings start to trickle,
Hidden deep from prying eyes,
Life’s expectations, fickle.

Primrose

Primrose

Primrose

Delicate primrose, posing there,
The prettiest picture I took.
If you could keep those precious stones,
Imagine the lusting, the looks!

Yet, there you sit in grassed, mud patch,
The world will pass on by.
I wonder, are the twinkling gems,
The woeful tears you cry?

The Day Says Goodnight

The Day Says Goodnight

The Day Says Goodnight

The day gets ready to say goodnight.
It just gives in, there’s no big fight.
The waxing Moon has raised its head,
The sun is drifting down to bed.

Wild birds sing the day goodbye,
Raptors soar, with one last cry.
They’ve had their supper, it’s time to roost,
As the river swells, bulging, from rainfalls boost.
